Creator Terms
Last updated: November 2, 2026
These terms apply when you apply to become a Creator on Octodius, or write for it, through creator.octodius.com. They sit alongside the Octodius Terms of Service, which still apply to your account. Octodius is operated by Matthew Dhlamini, based in South Africa ("Octodius", "we", "us").
Applying
- You need an Octodius account to apply. One application can be open at a time.
- We read every application by hand. We may approve or decline it at our discretion, and we don't have to give a reason, though we try to.
- If you are declined, you may apply again.
What you can submit
Approved Creators may submit blog posts and projects (such as guided builds) through the Creator Studio. Everything you submit is saved as a draft and reviewed before it is published. We may ask for changes, edit titles, excerpts, tags and formatting for consistency, or decline a submission. We will tell you before we make any substantial change to what you wrote.
Your content stays yours
You keep ownership of everything you submit. By submitting it, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, distribute, format and promote it on Octodius and in material about Octodius (such as newsletters and social posts), for as long as it is published and for a reasonable time after it is removed (for example, in backups and caches).
If a project you submit is ever sold, that will happen only under separate terms you have agreed to first (see "Payments" below).
Your promises
When you submit content, you confirm that:
- It is your own work, or you have the right to share it, and anything you use from others (code, images, fonts, datasets, quotes) is properly licensed and credited.
- It isn't copied or lightly reworded from another tutorial, course, book or repository.
- It contains no secrets, malware, personal data about other people, or anything unlawful.
- You have read and checked it yourself. You may use AI tools to help you write, but you are the author and responsible for every claim and every line of code, and you will say in your submission notes if a large part was drafted by a tool.
- Code you publish is offered under the licence you state on it.
Credit
Published content shows you as its author, with your name and a link to your profile on octodius.com.
Removing content
You can ask us to unpublish anything you wrote by emailing hello@octodius.com; we will do so within a reasonable time. We may unpublish content ourselves if it breaks these terms, the Creator guidelines or the Octodius Terms of Service, if it becomes outdated or unsafe, or if we receive a credible complaint about it.
Payments
Creator payouts are planned but not live. Nothing you submit now earns a payment, a revenue share or any other compensation unless we agree it with you separately and in writing. Before any payout program starts, we will publish its terms (the share, refunds, minimum payout, currency and schedule), and they will apply only to Creators who accept them.
Ending
You can stop being a Creator at any time by telling us. We may remove Creator access if you break these terms. Content that is already published stays under the licence above until it is removed.
No warranty and liability
The Creator Studio is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, Octodius is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of it, including the loss of a draft.
Changes
We may update these terms. If we make a material change, we will update the date above and tell active Creators by email. Continuing to submit content after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.
